The Men Behind The Dream
Jeremy Garton

Greetings all, and thanks for stopping by The Rosary Station. My name is Jeremy Garton, born and raised in the small community of Weston, WV. The youngest of seven children, I learned much from my older siblings! Thanks Jan, Julie, Jeff, Jeannine, Jon L, and Josh for being there for me all my life and for leading the way.

Our parents, both deceased now, were Joe and Jeanne Garton, and they, too, were raised right here in central West Virginia. My father was a cradle Catholic, and my mother converted when I was a baby. Thanks, Mom and Dad, for teaching us the importance of going to Mass every Sunday without fail and for showing us that Christ is in everyone. Love of God, love of others, and love of self will lead us to anything we want in life.

My parents never told us that they showed us by example. Mom always made hot custard for the ill or aged--that was her thing-- and she took as many of us with her as she could round up to deliver the goods. Dad was an avid gardener, and it was nothing to have two full acres of ground filled with the most colorful veggies you would find anywhere on earth. We would pick and can our goods in the fall and eat it all winter long. Not only did we eat on those canned items, Dad always managed to give cans and cans away as gifts or to folks who needed the extra food.

I am married the love of my life! Jenny and I were married in 1989, and at that time she had a four-year-old daughter Claire. Claire is now and has always been the apple of her Dad's eye, and she knows it. Raising Claire as my own and being married to Jenny is the most proud accomplishment of my life. All three of us are very close, and we enjoy just hanging out together.

I enjoy hunting, especially bow hunting, and you will never find me in the woods without my Rosary. The forest is the most perfect place in the world to say the Rosary. St. Padre Pio said 30 rosaries a night; my two or three a day fall way short of that, but maybe one day I will be there. Being part of our Church is very important to me and my wife. We try to be as active as possible. If you were to walk in our house on any given evening, you typically will find us watching EWTN. EWTN has been a tremendous source of my own spiritual growth.

In summary, I love God with all my heart; I love His Mother Mary; I love my family; and I love my Church family. I continue to work on my spiritual growth daily and hope to walk in Holiness on this earth and to be a Saint in Heaven on day. In fact, we all are called to be Holy and to be Saints. My wish is that everyone is doing his or her part to try his or her best at being Holy and becoming a Saint.

Hope to see you soon! If not, I’ll see you in Heaven!

Like many lost souls, I’d pretty much given up on attending church and talking to God.  Throughout my life, there were many ups and downs, mainly downs, but I always tried to portray my life as upbeat and successful instead of the Greek tragedy it closely resembled.
My mother worked hard to get my brother and me to the church and CCD when I was a young child.  She use to say, “Out of the 7 days of the week, you can’t give God at least 2 hours out of those 7 days?”  Of course, we didn’t have a come-back when she put it like that.  We went to church and CCD and got involved at the local Catholic Church.  But as we got older, my parent's marriage started to crumble, and finances were tight.  Eventually, Church took a second place to everything else, and we, the family, became “Deucers” (only went to church on Christmas and Easter).  Over time, Church went farther and farther down our list, and our family became nothing but a shell of its original self.  On the outside, people thought that we were the ideal family, but the Devil's little Dominions were hard at work at deteriorating our family’s core until it was destroyed………and we were lost.  It was down to my mother, brother, and me.
I took a job locally to help support them until they could get back on their feet.  We started to go to the local Methodist church since my mom worked as an administrative assistant at the church.  It was meaningful that I was reintroducing myself to God, but I knew that the Methodist church wasn’t the place for me.  I always said “Mom, I’ll go to the Methodist church with you but I will always remain a Catholic.”

After moving around for work over the next 10 years, I finally ended up in Weston, WV, where my family had once been a cornerstone of Catholicism.  After a failed marriage, I knew that there had to be a change in my life.  It was time to give God priority in my life.  I decided that it was time for me to “plant my roots” and establish St. Patrick Church as my home.  I went through the RCIA Program since I was never confirmed while growing up in the Catholic Church.  That’s where I met Jason and Jeremy.  Jason was in RCIA, and Jeremy was his program sponsor.
After being confirmed in April 2009, I found myself drawn to participate in a variety of church committees and also joined the local Knights of Columbus.  One night after a KofC meeting, Jeremy began talking to me about the Rosary Station and asked if I’d be interested in working with him and Jason on the project.  Without hesitation I told him that I was in.  From the start of the project, we’ve worked great together, bouncing ideas off of each other and working hard to push the project along.  I remember at the start when we hit a few snags with the project, and I looked at Jeremy and said, “Well, if they’re not going to be a part of this train, then they’re going to have to watch out because this train’s going to run them over.”  We haven’t looked back since.
Since joining and participating within the church and this project, I feel as if “the yoke of burden” has been lifted off of my shoulders.  Now, my life--personally, spiritually, and financially--has been enriched due to the experience.

As far as a little background about me, I’m a graduate of Marietta College and work as an environmental specialist for a local generation and natural gas company in West Virginia.  I enjoy various outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, but in the later summer and early fall I’m blessed with opportunity to coach the local Midget (10-, 11-, 12-year old) Football team in Lewis County.
Even with all of the various activities that I’m involved with in and around the county and state, you’ll never find me without a Rosary or Rosary ring in my pocket.
